Steps on How to Cook Beans Porridge

 How to Prepare Nigerian Beans Porridge

Before you start cooking make sure all your utensils and equipment are clean including your cooking area. As I will always say; hygiene is very important when it comes to what we eat.

Let’s get started;

Step 1

Pick/select the beans from impurities and remove unwanted materials from the beans. This is because a Nigerian bean comes with some unwanted materials like stones.

Step 2

After selecting out all the particles from the beans, wash them and parboil the beans on medium heat for 4-5 minutes.

After 5 minutes filter out the water, rinse it, and set it on a boil again for another 40 -50 minutes till it gets soft (you can check this by using your thumb to press the beans against your cooking spoon). Filter and set aside.

Step 3

Go ahead to grind/blend your washed tomatoes, peppers, garlic, and ginger, slice your washed onions, and set them aside.

Step 4

Set your pot on medium heat; pour in your palm oil and allow to heat for 3 minutes, don’t allow it to bleach. Add some of the onions and stir for a few minutes, add your blended tomato pepper mix, and allow it to fry for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 5

Pour your beans inside the pot, add salt, Maggi cubes, and water (enough to cook and prevent burning from the bottom), and stir. Cover and allow it to cook for 2-3 minutes (for the ingredient to settle in the beans).

Open and stir, then go in with your curry leaf (off heat) and cover the pot. I will be using fried plantain as a side dish with this delicious beans porridge.  I had my plantains fried. Let’s enjoy!

Note: you can use any vegetable of yours and can enjoy it with white rice, bread, pap, custard, plantain, yam, and any side dish you love.

Enjoy your premium Nigerian beans porridge.
