How to Make Nigerian Puff Puff
You must have heard of the Puff Puff or even tasted it. If you haven’t, then you are in for a treat. The Nigerian Puff Puff is a popular West African snack made of fried dough, similar to doughnuts but with a slightly different texture and flavor.
Let’s show you how it is done but first, let’s take a look at the ingredients used in preparing the Nigerian PufPuff.
Ingredients
1. Two cups all-purpose flour (250g flour)
2. 1/8 cup sugar (I don’t want it too sweet)
3. One tbsp active dry yeast
4. 1/8 teaspoon salt
5. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
6. One 1/4 cups warm water
7. Vegetable oil (for frying)
8. 1/8 Milk Flavour (optional)
Steps on How to Make the Nigerian Puff Puff

Before you start cooking make sure all your utensils and equipment are clean including your cooking area. As I will always say; hygiene is very important when it comes to what we eat.
Let’s get started;
Step 1
Dissolve the sugar in warm water using a bowl
Step 2
Add the active dry yeast to the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
Step 3
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and nutmeg (if using).
Step 4
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, and pour the yeast mixture into the well.
Step 5
Mix the ingredients until a smooth, thick batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to hold its shape but still be pourable.
Step 6
Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the batter rise in a warm place for about 20 to 30 minutes until it has doubled in size.
Step 7
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You need enough oil to submerge the puff puff completely.
Step 8
Using a small ice cream scoop or a spoon, scoop out portions of the batter and gently drop them into the hot oil. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
Step 9
Fry the puff puffs until they are golden brown, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. This should take about 3-5 minutes per batch.
Step 10
Use a slotted spoon to remove the puff puff from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Step 11
Serve warm. You can sprinkle them with additional sugar or serve them with a dipping sauce if desired.
