What is the Trick to French Toast

You don’t need to do too much if you know the tips and tricks of making a good French toast. Below are the tricks for making a perfect French toast:

1. Bread Selection

Your choice of bread matters when it comes to making the perfect French toast. Always go for the thick slices, preferably a day or two old, as stale bread absorbs the custard mixture better without being too soggy.

Hope you know that brioche, challah, or any French bread is very okay for you to use because of their soft texture.

2. Egg Mixture

This is referred to as a custard mixture which is made up of the egg, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and pepper (although it is optional).

You can also add any toppings of your choice for extra flavor like nutmeg, cinnamon, or a bit of sugar for more taste.

All the ingredients used for the custard should be in perfect amounts, not in excess and not in lesser amounts, so you can get a perfect toast to eat.

3. The Soaking Time

To get perfect French toast, your soaking time must be paid attention to. You just have to dip the bread into the custard and make sure it is fully coated and not overly saturated.

Soak your bread for about 20-30 seconds on each side, this will allow your bread to absorb the flavors without being soggy.

4. Cooking Time and Temperature

This too is very important because if you can get the cooking time and temperature right you will end up in a burnt black toast instead of a golden brown toast.

Use a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat with butter or oil to prevent the toast from sticking to the pot.

Your cooking time should be a maximum of 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden brown. Also, avoid overcrowding the pan as it can reduce the temperature and make the toast soggy.

5. Always Serve Hot/Warm

Serve your French toast immediately with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruits, or whipped cream.

Don’t forget that practice makes perfect. Don’t be scared to experiment with your French toast with different bread types, cooking time, and toppings! Till then, enjoy your French toast using my recipe.
