As mentioned earlier there are different types of fried rice, what is your favorite type of fried rice, or are you thinking of making some yourself?
If you have a favorite and you want to make it yourself, the first thing you should know is that there is a secret to a bowl of good Chinese fried rice.
And you have to know this secret before making yours so it can come as delicious as you want. The main secret to good Chinese fried rice lies in a few key techniques and ingredients used in making the rice.
What is the Secret to Good Fried Rice?
Below are some tips to follow on how to make your Chinese fried rice delicious:
1. Use Cold Rice: This is necessary for your favorite fried rice. The use of leftover cooked rice that has been cooled in the refrigerator for at least a few hours or overnight is what you need. This is because Cold rice ensures that the grains are firm and separate, preventing them from turning mushy during stir-frying.
2. High Heat: Medium or low heat is not needed here, so for your ingredients and veggies, stir-fry them over high heat in a well-seasoned wok or large frying pan. This will allow it to cook quickly and help to achieve the characteristic smoky flavor of fried rice.
3. The Use of Aromatics: My best part, is that use of Garlic, ginger, and green onions are often used as aromatics to add flavor to the dish and it has never gone wrong for me. Then, sauté them for some time in the oil or butter (regarding what you are using) before adding the other ingredients to release their undiluted aroma into your rice.
4. The Use of Soy Sauce/Sesame oil or Oyster Sauce: Make use of a high-quality sauce for any sauce you choose for flavoring. You can also adjust the amount based on your preference, but soy sauce adds depth and savory umami flavor to your fried rice.
5. Your Protein and Eggs: Here I can’t choose for you, any protein of your choice should be used along with the vegetables. Cook the protein first before adding the rice and ensure it is fully cooked and flavorful. For your eggs, you must use scrambled eggs separately and then mix them into the rice towards the end of cooking. This ensures that the eggs are evenly distributed and don’t get lost in the dish.
6. The use of Seasoning: Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed with salt, pepper, or additional soy sauce. You can also add other seasonings like sesame oil or chili paste for extra flavor.
Lastly, make sure all the ingredients you are using are evenly distributed in the pan and avoid overcrowding to ensure that everything cooks evenly and gets nicely coated with flavor.
If you follow the tips carefully with understanding then your fried rice will come out so sumptuous and delicious.
