A very slimy and delicious soup known as ogbono soup is what you need whenever you are stressed. I am going to show you how to make Ogbono soup as you read more.

Ogbono soup is a popular traditional Nigerian soup enjoyed by most people among the Igbos and the Yorubas.

It is known for its unique and viscous texture from the ground Ogbono seeds known as wild African bush mango seeds.

What is Ogbono Soup Made of?

Ogbono soup is a delectable Nigerian soup that has a mucilaginous (slimy) texture when cooked like okra soup and Ewedu (Jute leaves).

The process of making this soup isn’t hard, it is so easy to prepare as long as you have the ground mango seeds and your proteins ready, with seasonings and other ingredients.

Ogbono soup is more than just a meal, it is a soup that brings people together and is often prepared for special occasions and gatherings.

Because of its slimy, unique texture and rich flavor, this soup is deeply cherished in Nigerian cuisines and loved by many people of different cultures.

Ogbono Soup has a lot of nutritional benefits from the ingredients used in making this delicious meal. The soup is rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals, healthy fats, and fiber.

What are the Ingredients used for Ogbono Soup?

Based on preference, a lot of people have their desired proteins and other ingredients they may want to add to make Ogbono soup.

For my recipe, these are the ingredients I will be using for my Ogbono soup.

1. two cups blended ogbono

2. Three stock cube

3. Stockfish, Chevon (goat meat), Cow skin, and Dry fish.

7. Salt to taste

8. Onions

9. One–third cup of ground crayfish

10. one cup of Periwinkle and Hot leaves (uziza leaves)

11. Pumpkin leaves

12. one cup of palm oil

13. One tbsp. Scotch bonnet pepper

Tips on How to Make Ogbono Soup

These tips are important to know, to make a delicious ogbono soup as a pro. Here are the tips:

1. Avoid the Soup from Burning: Ogbono soup bun easily because of its thick and slimy texture, to avoid this, it is important to cook it on low heat and stir frequently

2. Make sure the soup has a consistent texture by mixing the ground Ogbono well before adding it to the pot to avoid lumps.

3. Ogbono seed itself has a good flavor, but using varieties of meats and seafood can enhance the flavor profile of the soup.

Before we go into our cooking always make sure all ingredients are properly washed and prepped accordingly.

Also, the environment in which you are working should be kept clean as well. Step by step guide on how to make Ogbono Soup as a pro is explained in detail below:

Step 1

The first thing to do is to wash and cut the meat into a pot. Season them with Salt, stock cube, and add some diced Onions and pepper, allow it to boil for about 20 to 30 minutes depending on how tender you want the meat to be.

Step 2

When the meat is cooked and almost done, add stockfish and cowskin, and cook for 5 to 6 minutes or till soft. By now your ground Ogbono seeds are ready; add them to the boiling meat.

I will need about 5 to 6 cups of stock to start up with, so make sure you have enough stock in the pot. After adding the Ogbono, stir very well until the Ogbono is dissolved well in the stock.

Step 3

Add the periwinkles, crayfish, and Palm Oil stir, and leave it to cook for another 5 to 6 minutes. Then turn down the heat and add the leafy greens. Allow it to simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes.

Hurray!! My ogbono soup is ready; you can serve it with any swallow like Eba, Amala, Pounded Yam, or any other one you need.
